Beginning July 15, 2021, most tax-paying Arizona families will recieve monthly Child Tax Credit payments. This historic relief was made possible by Congress in the American Rescue Plan, which increased the amount of the credit and expanded eligibility for it to help working families recover from the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the White House, these payments will reach roughly 40 million households, covering 90 percent of children in our country. More than 150,000 children in our congressional district alone will benefit from this credit, which will help cut the child poverty rate in half and provide a much-needed boost to our economy.

Who gets the Child Tax Credit?

Eligible families with children aged 17 or younger will get this credit if they make $150,000 or less as a couple or $112,500 or less as a single parent or head of household.

How does my family get the Child Tax Credit?

If you filed tax returns for 2019 or 2020 or received a stimulus check from the Internal Revenue Service, you will get these payments automatically. The 80% who get their refunds from the IRS through direct deposit will get these payments in their bank account on the 15th of every month until the end of 2021. People who don’t use direct deposit will receive their payment by mail around the same time.

If you did not file tax returns for 2019 or 2020 or did not earn enough money to do so, you can still sign up to receive these payments by using the free IRS Child Tax Credit Non-filer tool.

How much is it?

The Child Tax Credit provides $3,000 to $3,600 per child for nearly all working families. Families that qualify can receive monthly payments up to $300 for each child under six years old and up to $250 for each child between six and 17 years old.

When do I get it?

Normally, tax relief for the year only comes the following year when you file your taxes, no matter how much you need it now. Under the expanded Child Tax Credit, payments will be delivered on the 15th of every month starting in July until the end of 2021, by mail or direct deposit.

Too many families out there are struggling, and Rep. Stanton will keep doing everything he can to help lift them up. While the new Child Tax Credit enacted in the American Rescue Plan is only for 2021, Rep. Stanton will work hard to make it permanent and ease the financial burden on Arizona families.
