Rep. Greg Stanton today delivered hand-made valentine cards to local veterans created by elementary school students in Arizona’s 9th District. Through Stanton’s “Valentine’s for Vets” initiative, now in its third year, students from more than 50 schools created more than 1,000 cards to show appreciation for the men and women who served our country.
“Our veterans deserve our respect and gratitude every day of the year—and our Valentine’s for Vets program is a great opportunity for students to learn about and appreciate the sacrifice our military veterans have made,” said Stanton. “I’m grateful for the outpouring of support we got from our local schools. They helped make a lot of veterans’ Valentine’s Day brighter.”
Stanton visited the Arizona State Veteran Home to meet with veterans and present the students’ valentines. The cards were also delivered to seniors and veterans at the Phoenix VA, Aster Aging, Native Health and senior centers across the district.
Stanton partnered with administrators and teachers from more than 50 schools in the Chandler, Mesa, Kyrene, Madison, Washington, Tempe Elementary, Cartwright and Scottsdale School Districts to collect the cards.
