More than $2.8 million owed to residents of Arizona’s Ninth Congressional District by the federal government has been returned to its rightful owners since freshman Rep. Greg Stanton took office.

Stanton’s team has helped nearly 1,800 constituents navigate bureaucratic hurdles on a wide range of issues, from taxes to immigration services to veterans’ benefits. One of the most common kinds of cases Stanton’s office handles is helping residents receive backlogged federal benefits they’re owed, such as Social Security. To date, the office has returned more than $2.3 million in Social Security benefits alone.

“Providing unmatched constituent service makes a real difference in people’s lives, and in at least one case we’ve handled has helped stop one of our constituents from experiencing homelessness,” said Stanton.

As Arizonans continue to suffer the economic and public health effects of the COVID-19 crisis, Stanton brought on additional casework staff to help constituents seeking unemployment and housing assistance and obtaining CARES Act benefits—including small businesses loans and IRS Economic Impact Payments.
