AZCentral: Derek Chauvin verdict updates: Rep. Greg Stanton calls for support of police reform bill
Rep. Greg Stanton, D-Ariz., on Twitter said Tuesday's verdict symbolized justice for George Floyd's family, but "does not erase the systemic problems that put Black lives at risk every day in America."
Stanton's tweet urged Congress to pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act, which was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives in February. The act would ban chokeholds and federal no-knock warrants, and aims to prevent problem officers from moving from one department to another by creating a national registry to track those with checkered records.
"The Senate must do what the House did more than a month ago: pass the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act," he tweeted. "Failing to move forward on this bill—or allowing it to die by filibuster—would be a grave injustice."
