TEMPE—Yesterday Rep. Greg Stanton announced $700,000 federal funds he secured to renovate Junior Achievement of Arizona’s ‘BizTown’ Facility—an engaging, hands-on program that introduces 4th, 5th, and 6th graders to economic concepts, workplace skills, and personal and business finances in a student-sized town built just for them.
“What makes Junior Achievement so special is their commitment to serving a diverse population of students, many of whom come from low-income households," said Congressman Greg Stanton. “They partner with more than 400 schools in Arizona, 50 of which are in my district. Providing funds for Junior Achievement to renovate and improve their facility is an investment in the future of Arizona’s children, and this investment couldn’t have come at a better time.”
“This funding from the government, that your team made possible, is huge for us. We are going to be able to use the $700,000 to upgrade parts of BizTown. It includes the technology, it includes the flooring. Remember there’s 25,000 kids that are coming through this every year—that’s a lot of usage,” Junior Achievement President Katherine Cecala said.
Stanton also spoke with students from Greenfield Elementary in Gilbert who were participating in the BizTown simulation, and presented the student ‘mayors’ of BizTown with a miniature check for pothole repairs.
