Rep. Greg Stanton issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act:
“Today’s vote to make a once-in-a-generation investment in our nation’s infrastructure will create millions of good-paying jobs, boost innovation and competitiveness, and strengthen Arizona’s economy.
This package includes several key investments I’ve long fought for—from highways to broadband to water and wastewater systems to public transit. I’m particularly grateful that this bill includes several provisions that I’ve championed: The Small Community Transit Act, the ROCKS Act, and $150 million for the Corps of Engineers that would fund the new Arizona Environmental Infrastructure Authority that I successfully fought for last year.
And, importantly, it lifts tribal communities that for far too long haven’t received the federal infrastructure support they deserve.
This is a big step forward––an important one––but our work is only half done. We must continue our work to pass a meaningful reconciliation bill that will strengthen America's middle class and lower everyday costs that burden families without adding to our national debt.
We have to deliver on our promises to lower the cost of prescription drugs for Arizona families and seniors, who struggle to pay for lifesaving medications while drug companies reap record profits.
And as Arizona faces increasingly urgent challenges from a changing climate, it’s past time that we make good on our commitment and duty to cut carbon emissions, better prevent wildfires and safeguard against drought, and invest in clean energy. Our economic future as a state depends on it, and I look forward to continuing our work to deliver for Arizonans.”
