Congressman Greg Stanton today thanked Mayor Kate Gallego and the Phoenix City Council for making a $10.5 million investment to secure a new facility for US VETS-Phoenix, which currently houses 187 veterans experiencing homelessness in the Valley.
Stanton worked with Gallego to help find a solution for US VETS, which is being forced to relocated from its current location in central Phoenix.
Faced with the prospect of being forced to vacate its premises at the end of the year with nowhere to go, US VETS – which had already been in contact with the City of Phoenix, the State of Arizona and Maricopa County – convened an emergency call of Arizona’s congressional delegation staff on Sept. 22. That day, Stanton began working with the Phoenix Mayor’s office to find a solution.
This week – less than a month later – the City of Phoenix approved funds to purchase a new facility that US VETS-Phoenix will rent from the city.
“I am very grateful to Mayor Gallego and the Phoenix City Council for quickly and creatively finding a solution to take care of these veterans who served and sacrificed for our country,” said Stanton.
