PHOENIX—Rep. Greg Stanton, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, today issued the following statement after the publication of a redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report:

I have now had a chance to read and thoroughly review the redacted version of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

The Special Counsel’s findings shock the conscience and should deeply trouble every American who values our democracy and respects the rule of law.

It is disturbing and shameful that when Russian operatives successfully interfered in our presidential election it was welcomed by the President and the Trump Campaign, who expected to benefit electorally from this attack on our nation.

The President knew his behavior was wrong, and he worked to block the American people and Special Counsel from learning the full truth of what happened.  There is substantial evidence the President obstructed justice by actively preventing a complete investigation of his campaign and own conduct.  Further, there is much we still do not know because the President refused to meet with the Special Counsel and his associates destroyed evidence relevant to the investigation.

No person is above the law, and the Special Counsel made clear that it is now up to Congress to learn more and demand accountability.  I take this Constitutional duty seriously and look forward to getting more answers and hearing testimony directly from both Special Counsel Mueller and Attorney General Barr when they appear before the Judiciary Committee.
