Modernizing our Infrastructure

Arizona is one of the fastest growing states, and as a former mayor of Phoenix and the current Vice Ranking Member of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I know that improving all forms of transportation will make Arizonans’ lives better--and it’s great for business too. 

That’s why I was so proud to work on the historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law—a once in a generation investment to improve our roadways, airports, public transit, and more. I won’t stop working to leverage this legislation for the East Valley, whether it’s heading to Sky Harbor, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway or Valley Metro. 

I’m focused on growing Arizona’s clean energy transit options--expanding the Rio East-Dobson Streetcar and securing $2.3 million for an on-demand public transportation service in the East Valley that will target areas with little to no regular public transit service.

Arizona airports will get millions of dollars in COVID-19 emergency funds

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS5) -- Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix and other airports around Arizona can expect to get some financial relief during this COVID-19 crisis, thanks to the "CARES Act." CARES stands for "Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security."

The act will provide $224 million in emergency funds or Arizona airports. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport was awarded $147,883,988. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport was awarded $20,530,276. And Flagstaff's Pulliam Airport will receive $18,134,294. Smaller airports around the state will also get relief aid.

Once considered a dusty, remote military castoff, Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is moving toward a major breakthrough that enables it to host major commercial airlines – thanks to a $10 million federal grant for a new, long-awaited air traffic control tower.

The new tower promises to unlock the airport's full potential when it is completed at the end of 2022 – which will cost nearly $30 million, with the Federal Aviation Administration pledging $25 million and the rest coming from state and airport funds.

Stanton Advocates for Transportation Infrastructure Investment on Tribal Lands

WASHINGTON, D.C.-Rep. Greg Stanton today addressed the serious transportation infrastructure challenges of Arizona tribes and advocated for increased federal support at a hearing before the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Subcommittee on Highways and Transit.

The hearing was the first in 18 years on tribal transportation needs. Stanton and fellow member Rep. Sharice Davids of Kansas have been urging the committee to have this conversation.

In a bill introduced last month, U.S. Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ) - together with co-sponsor U.S. Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) - and U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton (D-AZ) jointly pushed for the acceleration of development on Interstate 11 through the disbursement of additional federal assistance.

Specifically, the extra help would be for the Tier II Environmental Impact Study required for segments of the Arizona project. A major lifeline for the state, I-11, also potentially offers an additional route for trade with Mexico and Canada.
