Committees and Caucuses

Rep. Greg Stanton is a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, and he serves on the Aviation and Highways and Transit subcommittees.

Transportation and Infrastructure has jurisdiction over all modes of transportation: aviation, maritime and waterborne transportation, highways, bridges, mass transit, and railroads.  The Committee also has jurisdiction over other aspects of our national infrastructure, such as clean water and waste water management, the transport of resources by pipeline, flood damage reduction, the management of federally owned real estate and public buildings, the development of economically depressed rural and urban areas, disaster preparedness and response, and hazardous materials transportation.

Prior to representing Arizona’s ninth district, Stanton served as Phoenix mayor, where he made transportation a top priority during his time in office. In 2015, Stanton successfully led one of the most ambitious transportation initiatives in the country—a bipartisan, voter-supported plan that is now working to triple Phoenix’s light rail system, expand bus service, and improve thousands of miles of roadways over the next 35 years.

As mayor, Stanton also drove millions of dollars in investment to renovate Sky Harbor—including in Sky Train, which connects passengers to light rail. His role on the Aviation subcommittee will allow him to continue to advocate for the multiple airports that serve the ninth district and the greater Phoenix metro, including Sky Harbor International Airport and Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. And through the Highways and Transit subcommittees, Stanton will continue to focus on the region’s growing light rail system and critical highways including I-11, which connects Phoenix to Las Vegas, and State Routes 24 and 30 in the metro area.

And as a largely desert state, Arizona has water infrastructure needs that are increasingly urgent because of the impact of climate change.  Stanton will continue to fight for the available resources available to meet these infrastructure needs to combat drought and deliver water.

Rep. Stanton is also a member of the House Committee on the Judiciary, and he serves on the Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet subcommittee.

The Judiciary Committee is charged with overseeing the administration of justice within the federal courts, administrative agencies and Federal law enforcement. It is also responsible for impeachments of federal officials. Issues that come before the Committee include antitrust, border security, civil justice, the Constitution, copyright, crime, government oversight, immigration, intellectual property, national security, overcriminalization, and patent and trademark.

Stanton sought an appointment to the Judiciary Committee because of its jurisdiction over immigration issues. He has long-pushed for comprehensive, common-sense immigration reforms including the DREAM Act.

The Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet subcommittee has jurisdiction over the administration of the U.S. Courts, the Federal Rules of Evidence, Civil and Appellate Procedure, judicial ethics, patent, trademark law and information technology.

Rep. Stanton is a member of the New Democrats Coalition

The New Democrat Coalition is made up of 100 forward-thinking Democrats who are committed to pro-economic growth, pro-innovation, and fiscally responsible policies. New Democrats are solutions-oriented and committed to bridging the gap between left and right by challenging outmoded partisan approaches to governing. New Democrats believe the challenges ahead are too great for members of Congress to refuse to cooperate purely out of partisanship.

Stanton is a co-chair of the New Democrat Coalition’s Healthcare Task Force, which will work on health care solutions such as stabilizing the individual markets and making health care more affordable. The group meets with constituents and health care experts to shape both short-term and long-term policy positions for the Coalition, and find ways to advance legislation that strengthens our economy.
