Washington, D.C.—Today, Rep. Greg Stanton announced the City of Mesa has been awarded $800,000 to install 12,000 smart meters to promote water conservation and sustainability. As conditions on the Colorado River become more serious, it is important that the City and customers have greater stewardship over their water consumption and intuitive information to make water efficient choices at homes and businesses.
Stanton secured funding for this project—requested by the City of Mesa—in the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations process.
“It’s up to all of us to conserve this precious resource–local governments, local businesses, and individual residents, all working towards a more sustainable future,” Stanton said. “These smart meters have been shown to reduce household water usage up nearly half. That’s not just conserving water—it’s saving families money, and it’s saving taxpayer dollars as remote meter reading helps the City reduce fleet fuel consumption and emissions.”
“We are grateful to Representative Stanton for his support in securing funding for this crucial water infrastructure project,” Mesa Mayor Mark Freeman said. “Smart meters empower Mesa to manage water demand and promote water conservation by offering customers a user-friendly tool to monitor water consumption and promptly identify leaks. This empowers customers to adjust their usage or initiate repairs promptly.”
