Stanton has urged Bureau of Reclamation to prioritize project for Inflation Reduction Act funding
PHOENIX—Rep. Greg Stanton toured Phoenix’s Cave Creek Water Reclamation Facility on Monday, as the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation considers the city’s application for nearly $300 million in funding under the Inflation Reduction Act to advance its North Phoenix Water Resiliency Strategy. The facility is currently undergoing renovations to allow it to utilize Advanced Water Purification technology—transforming treated wastewater into safe, purified drinking water.
Stanton has repeatedly pressed the USBR to prioritize long-term water conservation projects for Inflation Reduction Act funding. In September, Stanton sent a letter to USBR Commissioner Camille Touton in support of the city’s application for IRA funding through the Lower Colorado River Basin System Conservation and Efficiency Program. “Advanced water purification is the single most important technology for reducing the reliance of municipal populations on the Colorado River,” Stanton wrote. “The city is investing significantly in these projects. . . but to make [them] a reality, federal assistance is needed.” He further raised the importance of the project directly with Commissioner Touton in a September phone call.
Stanton was joined on the tour by Rep. Jared Huffman (CA-02), the ranking Democratic member on the House Committee on Natural Resources Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries Subcommittee, and leadership from Phoenix’s Water Services Department.
