WASHINGTON, D.C.—Just one year into Donald Trump’s second term, a new report found Arizona families spent $1569 more on average due to inflation–including $188 more for housing such as rent or mortgage payments and $251 more for transportation costs, such as for a new or used car, car repairs, and gas.

“People are struggling to make ends meet because the President of the United States slapped almost everything they buy with illegal tariffs. I’m fighting in Congress and the courts to end the chaos because Arizonans deserve better,” said U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton (D-AZ).

The full report from the Joint Economic Committee – Minority is available HERE. The analysis uses recent data from the Bureau of Economic Analysis on household spending and the most recent Consumer Price Index (CPI) data that tracks inflation through December 2025. CPI estimates the costs that households pay for all purchases and expenses, including housing, transportation, food, clothing, health care, utilities, and other essentials.

Stanton has led the fight in Congress to reign in Trump’s abuse of tariff powers. In March, Stanton led a resolution to terminate Trump’s unlawful use of “emergency” authorities under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which he has used to justify tariffs based on a fabricated national emergency. He has backed the Prevent Tariff Abuse Act to stop the President of the United States from imposing tariffs under the guise of a national emergency without Congressional approval, and the Congressional Trade Authority Act to require the president to submit to Congress any proposal to adjust tariffs under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act.
