Following House passage of the bipartisan Water Resources Development Act of 2022, which included several of Rep. Greg Stanton’s priorities, mayors across the state celebrated the investments included in the legislation:
“Tres Rios is an important river restoration project that has already brought many benefits to the community, including enhancement of our local biodiversity. We appreciate Congressman Stanton for prioritizing this important project for completion so its full benefits can be realized,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said.
"Tempe is grateful for the hard work and dedication of Congressman Stanton in support of the Kyrene Water Reclamation Facility," Tempe Mayor Corey Woods said. "The WRDA House passage gets us one step closer to ensuring Tempe's water supply and our state’s resiliency against the effects of climate change.”
“We are grateful for Congressman Stanton’s leadership in securing an additional $50 million for the Arizona Environmental Infrastructure program in WRDA 2022. This program is critical for our city. With two recent wildfires that have caused damaging post-wildfire flooding, we are using these funds to build a retention basin and a lateral tunnel to divert some of these potentially dangerous flood waters. We are thankful for Congressman Stanton’s continued support and leadership on the Arizona Environmental Infrastructure program and appreciate his continued support for the City of Flagstaff,” Flagstaff Mayor Paul Deasy said.
"I thank Congressman Stanton for his advocacy for the residents of Chandler and his district,” Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke said. “These funds for the City's Ocotillo Water Reclamation Facility will allow Chandler to increase the resiliency of the infrastructure that serves our residents and our major industry corridors.”
“We applaud Congressman Stanton for his continued efforts to bring this needed environmental infrastructure program to Arizona. Because of his efforts, we have had two projects approved, including an aquifer recharge system, that will help save the City’s precious water resources. The extra $50 million in authorization funds for these projects in Arizona will ensure that Maricopa can complete a substantial portion of its water infrastructure needs in the City. Again, we are very appreciative of Congressman Stanton and his efforts to find valuable resources for Arizona communities like ours,” Maricopa Mayor Nancy Smith said.
