WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, Rep. Greg Stanton released a statement in response to a memorandum from U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy to recipients of federal funding. The memo announced USDOT’s formal intent to withhold grant funds from states and localities if they do not cooperate on federal immigration enforcement efforts or for maintaining diversity, equity and inclusion programs. Stanton said:
“Duffy is threatening to illegally halt infrastructure improvements in Arizona so he can wage Trump’s culture wars. To the Trump Administration, Arizona’s economy is just collateral damage.
That’s not policy, it’s extortion. And I’m not going to stand for it.”
