WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Representative Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) released the following statement today after the Bureau of Labor Statistic’s June 2025 Consumer Price Index (CPI) report showed inflation rising 2.7 percent last month:
“As any economist could’ve predicted, Trump’s self-defeating tariffs are making life more expensive for Arizona families and businesses,” said Rep. Stanton. “Enough is enough. Congress must regain authority over tariffs as the framers of the Constitution intended.”
Stanton has been leading the charge in pushing back against Trump’s unchecked tariffs restoring Congressional authority. Stanton is spearheading a resolution to terminate Trump’s unlawful use of “emergency” authorities under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), which has been used as the basis for the implementation of tariffs.
After House Republicans blocked consideration of his resolution, Stanton introduced a discharge petition to force a vote on the House floor.
