WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, the House passed its second appropriations bill to fund the federal government through fiscal year 2020. Rep. Greg Stanton voted in favor of the bill, which included several measures he pushed for on behalf of Arizona families.
“With this second funding bill, we continued to fight for smart, forward-thinking investments that can make a difference in Arizona,” said Stanton.
The second appropriations bill, H.R. 3055, is made up of five funding measures: Commerce-Justice-Science; Agriculture-Related Agencies; Interior-Environment; Military Construction-VA; and Transportation-HUD.
H.R. 3055 funds several priorities Stanton advocated for including
- $375 million for initiatives to combat opioid abuse, an increase of $28 million above current funding levels – Stanton advocated for language that encourages the use of these funds to provide law enforcement officers and first responders with overdose reversal drugs such as Naloxone.
- $40 million for Violence Against Women Act transitional housing programs, a $5 million increase above the current funding level – The initiative helps communities in give victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking a safe place to begin to recovery.
- $3.08 billion for Clean Water and Drinking Water State Revolving Funds – In fiscal year 2019, Arizona received $30.8 million for clean water and drinking water projects through the federal fund.
- $3.6 billion for Community Development Block Grants – These block grants support Arizona cities and towns. In fiscal year 2019, Phoenix, Tempe, Scottsdale, Mesa and Chandler collectively received more than $24 million in Community Development Block Grant funds to support local initiatives.
- $2.3 billion for Capital Investment Grants – These funds support grants used by local transit authorities including Valley Metro.
- $70 million for the Next Generation Air-Ground Communications (NEXCOM) program – This is the FAA’s modernization effort to replace unsupportable and obsolete air traffic control radios used for air-to-ground communication in the National Airspace System.
- $6.34 billion for the Indian Health Service
- $222 million for veteran suicide prevention outreach
- $40 million for supportive housing for homeless veterans
- $4.1 million to fund the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness
