U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton, D-Ariz., Dean of Arizona's Democratic Delegation, urged House Speaker Mike Johnson or his designee to administer the oath of office to Representative-elect Adelita Grijalva during the Pro Forma session of Congress tomorrow, September 30th.

Grijalva won a decisive victory in Arizona's special election nearly a week ago, and appropriate official correspondence from the State of Arizona has been submitted to the House.

Stanton notes that Speaker Johnson personally administered the oath of office to Republican Representatives Jimmy Patronis and Randy Fine of Florida during Pro Forma sessions, and to Representative James Walkinshaw of Virginia in regular session. All were sworn in within twenty-four hours of their respective elections.

“Until she is sworn in, more than 800,000 residents of southern Arizona will remain without a voice in Congress, unnecessarily depriving them representation they are guaranteed by the U.S Constitution. Precedent and practice should also compel the House to act as swiftly as possible,” Stanton writes.
