Washington (CNN) – Rep. Greg Stanton, an Arizona Democrat, was recently tapped to serve on the committee of transportation and infrastructure, and the judiciary.
Concerns in Arizona are mounting - amid the longest partial government shutdown in history - over financial assistance for victims of crime, flight delays, a devastating fire season and the piles of garbage at state national parks.
U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton, D-Ariz., held a panel discussion Monday afternoon where he listened to federal workers and other Arizonans struggling to make ends meet amid the government shutdown, which entered its 31st day.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - The House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee this week appointed Rep. Greg Stanton to serve on two committees that are essential to Arizona: Transportation and Infrastructure and Judiciary.
"Arizona is one of the fastest-growing states in the country, and we have real infrastructure needs," said Stanton. "I look forward to working with communities across the state to make sure their needs – from aviation to public transit to water – are heard loud and clear in Washington."
WASHINGTON, D.C.-Today, Representatives Raul M. Grijalva, Ruben Gallego, Tom O'Halleran, Ann Kirkpatrick, and Greg Stanton called on the U.S. Senate to pass the House of Representatives' bipartisan funding bills and reopen the federal government before federal workers begin missing their paychecks. Due to the Trump Administration's decision to prioritize the construction of a border wall over the needs of everyday Americans, approximately 7,300 federal employees in Arizona will go without a paycheck.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Exactly eight years after the horrific shooting in Tucson that left six people dead and many others severely injured – including former U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords – U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton today signed on to bipartisan legislation that would require universal background checks on gun sales.
"For years, there has been a lot of talk and no action coming from Congress when it comes to common-sense solutions like background checks. Today, we're taking action," said Stanton, who is a member of the House's Gun Violence Task Force.
WASHINGTON, D.C. - Greg Stanton was officially sworn in as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives today, and the former mayor quickly got to work by voting to fully reopen the federal government.
"This unnecessary shutdown is hurting Arizona families and our economy, and it's time to stop playing political games," said Stanton.
The federal government has been partially shut down for 13 days, and has affected more than 800,000 public sector employees.
The 116th United States Congress, consisting of members from the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives, commences in Washington, D.C. on January 3, 2019.
