WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Judiciary Committee Member Rep. Greg Stanton delivered the following statement during the hearing, "Preventing Gun Violence: A Call To Action." Today's hearing on gun violence prevention was the first held by the House in eight years.

WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump used his first speech to a divided Congress Tuesday to call for unity, with a pledge to "work with you to achieve historic breakthroughs" and a plea to "govern not as two parties, but as one nation."
"The agenda I lay out this evening is not a Republican agenda or a Democratic agenda," Trump said at the outset of his State of the Union address. "It is the agenda of the American people."
PHOENIX – As an undocumented immigrant, Ellie Perez isn't allowed to work in Congress.
But the Phoenix woman whose parents brought her to the U.S. when she was 4 will be inside the Capitol on Tuesday when President Donald Trump delivers his State of the Union address.
Perez, who was born in Mexico, will be the guest of Rep. Greg Stanton, the Arizona Democrat announced Friday.
WASHINGTON – In advance of tomorrow evening's State of the Union Address, Rep. Greg Stanton said he hopes the President seizes the opportunity to signal his willingness to find a permanent solution for DREAMers.
Ellie Perez, an undocumented "Dreamer" from Phoenix, will be attending Tuesday's State of the Union address with a mix of excitement and trepidation.
It will be her first time on Capitol Hill, even though she worked on the political campaign for U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton, a freshman Democrat from Arizona.
While excited about the opportunity, Perez also is worried President Donald Trump might use his State of the Union speech to continue his vilification of undocumented immigrants to drum up public support for border wall funding.
PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - As the nation gears up for the president's State of the Union address Tuesday, many Arizonans are packing up and getting ready to head to Washington.
"When he gave me a call, he said, 'How do you feel about going to State of the Union?' And there was a part of me that said, 'Are you serious?'" Perez said.
It will be among the many firsts for her; she was the first undocumented City of Phoenix employee and is the first undocumented member of the Democratic National Committee.
She also worked for Stanton's campaign.
