PHOENIX – Today, U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) issued the following statement following Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem's press conference in Arizona on election security:

"Trump and his allies have spent six years trying to cast doubt on the outcome of the 2020 election in Arizona. They've turned up nothing.

WASHINGTON D.C. – Today, the House passed H.J.Res. 72, a resolution U.S. Representative Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) led to terminate Trump's national emergency used to impose tariffs on Canada. Six Republicans crossed the aisle to vote with Democrats, a bipartisan rebuke of the President's chaotic trade war. Stanton will move next to pass H.J.Res. 73, a resolution terminating Trump's tariffs on Mexico, Arizona and America's largest trading partner.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -Today, U.S. Representative Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) slammed House Speaker Mike Johnson and Republican lawmakers on the House floor for blocking a vote on his legislation ending Trump's tariff authority. The effort led by Speaker Johnson would block the House from voting until after July 31 on legislation to end the president's emergency tariff powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA). This marks the third time Republicans have blocked action; earlier last year, Speaker Johnson quietly pushed through provisions that blocked action until after Jan. 31.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representatives Greg Stanton (AZ-04), Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03) and Adelita Grijalva (AZ-07) sent two letters demanding greater transparency regarding the Department of Homeland Security's (DHS) recent acquisition of a warehouse reportedly intended to be converted into a 1,500-bed detention facility in Surprise, Arizona. "Arizonans don't want a detention facility across the street from their house or the neighborhood high school. DHS hasn't done the bare minimum to communicate with local and county officials about how they'll mitigate the impacts on the West Valley community, and they haven't communicated to Congress how they'll make an industrial warehouse fit to hold human beings," said Rep. Stanton. "Let's be clear: this is Trump's disastrous mass deportation machine in action."
