It’s time for Congress to restore transparency in Washington and return political power to the people.
I’ve introduced a bill to ban Members of Congress from trading and holding individual stocks, so we can rebuild Americans’ trust that our government is working for the people, not politicians’ financial gain.
And when we were heading towards an unnecessary and potentially devastating government shutdown that would have put hundreds of Arizonans’ paychecks on hold, I called on House leadership to advance federal government funding legislation and supported bipartisan legislation to avoid catastrophic default and raise the debt ceiling.

PHOENIX - Valley political figures reacted Monday to the Arizona Supreme Court ruling that a Phoenix business can refuse to create custom wedding invitations for same-sex couples.
WASHINGTON – The Arizona Supreme Court Monday sided with two Phoenix women who said a city law aimed at preventing discrimination would have forced them to violate their Christian faith by creating custom invitations for same-sex weddings.
A narrow majority of the court said that the religious convictions of Brush & Nib owners Joanna Duka and Breanna Koski "may seem old-fashioned, or even offensive to some," but they are still covered by the Arizona Constitution's protection of free speech.
PHOENIX-Rep. Greg Stanton, who served as Phoenix's mayor when the city passed its Human Relations Ordinance in 2013, made the following statement in response to the Arizona Supreme Court's decision in Brush & Nib v. The City of Phoenix that permits discrimination against same-sex couples:

WASHINGTON-Rep. Greg Stanton and Rep. Greg Steube of Florida this week introduced a bipartisan bill to permanently extend security protection of Justices of the Supreme Court outside the Supreme Court grounds. Current law authorizes the Supreme Court Police to protect justices-however, the authority to protect them outside of Supreme Court grounds is temporary and set to expire at the end of this year.
A resolution in Congress to extend the deadline for ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) H.J.Res 38 has five co-sponsors from the Arizona delegation: Rueben Gallego, Raul Grijalva, Ann Kirkpatrick, Greg Stanton, and Tom O'Halleran, all Democrats. The rest of the Arizona delegation have not co-sponsored the extension resolution: Debbie Lesko, Paul Gosar, David Schweikert, and Andy Biggs, all Republicans.
WASHINGTON – Arizona Senators Kyrsten Sinema and Martha McSally, alongside Representatives Tom O'Halleran (AZ-01), Ann Kirkpatrick (AZ-02), Raul Grijalva (AZ-03), Paul Gosar (AZ-04), Andy Biggs (AZ-05), Ruben Gallego (AZ-07), and Greg Stanton (AZ-09) wrote to Congressional leaders about mail delivery delays in Arizona due to the partial consolidation of the Tucson processing center. The delegation members urged leaders to ensure any postal legislation required the collection of updated service and economic impact data before further consolidating Postal Service processing centers.
Emergency service dispatchers in Phoenix are gearing up for a meeting with city officials in an attempt to shore up emergency funding for staff, new systems and therapy resources as nationally, dispatchers are awaiting a decision in Washington D.C. that could impact how they are classified.
Currently, 911 dispatchers in Arizona and across the nation are not considered first responders. Instead, they are generally considered clerical or administrative staff.
The Gila River Indian Community together with the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and a host of elected officials this morning celebrated the opening of the Gila Crossing Community School, the Community's Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) K-8 school located in District 6 of the reservation along West Pecos Road near Laveen.
More than 700 Community members and guests filled the new gymnasium of the Gila Crossing Community School (GCCS) for its ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday, July 27 in District 6. Many Gila River Indian Community, state, and national leaders attended to celebrate the historic occasion. The state-of-the-art school was open for the day to all for tours of the school before officially opening Aug. 1.
President Trump and his Republican apologists - including his defense lawyer who moonlights as the nation's attorney general - do not believe a single word they have said about former special counsel Robert S. Mueller III's report. The GOP has claimed that it shows "no collusion, no obstruction." But Republicans' behavior at Wednesday's hearings, not to mention Mueller's own words, prove they have been lying.
