WASHINGTON, D.C.—Today, U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.) issued the following statement:
“I just voted against additional funding for the Department of Homeland Security. The Arizonans I represent are sick of the violence & chaos playing out across the U.S. Masked agents are acting in ways that are illegal & dangerously escalatory, threatening the safety of our communities.
It's got to stop, and Republicans in Congress need to work with Democrats to rein in this agency operating without regard for the law.”
Stanton has been sounding the alarm about Secretary Kristi Noem’s mismanagement of the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), calling for her impeachment following FEMA’s response to the Texas floods and her broader disregard for the rule of law, including excessive use of force and the overreach of federal immigration officers.
Stanton led the PUBLIC SAFETY Act alongside Reps. Chris Pappas (D-N.H.) and Susie Lee (D-Nev.), legislation that would redirect nearly $75 billion in funding from congressional Republicans’ One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) away from ICE and toward local law enforcement agencies that invest in well-trained officers with strong ties to the communities they serve.
Stanton has also backed two additional bills: the Stop Excessive Force in Immigration Act, which would improve accountability, enhance safety, and prevent excessive overreach in federal immigration enforcement, and the Protecting Sensitive Locations Act, which would reinstate a longstanding policy safeguarding schools, hospitals, and places of worship.
