WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Congressman Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.), Ranking Member of the Subcommittee on Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management, led 77 of his House Democratic colleagues in a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy urging him to reinstate consumer protections for airline passengers experiencing significant delays or cancellations.

Earlier this month, the Trump Administration scrapped a Biden-era proposed rule that would require airlines to compensate and cover expenses for passengers experiencing lengthy delays or cancellations caused by air carriers.

“It is unclear what [the Administration’s] priorities are, and how rolling back the proposed rule’s consumer protections aligns with those goals,” the Members wrote.

“Instead of rolling back this protection for passengers, the Trump administration should be focusing on commonsense, bipartisan ways to reduce costs for customers and keep our skies safe,” the Members continued.

The Members concluded by urging the Administration to reverse their decision and advance the proposed rule.
