PHOENIX — The city of Chandler has extended the contract of a public transportation service in the city for two more years.

Through an agreement with River North Transit, LLC, Chandler Flex’s service will be extended through June 30, 2027. It was set to expire on July 1, according to Thursday news release.

“Good transit drives economic development — and as one of the fastest-growing areas in the region, Chandler needs flexible and affordable last-mile transportation options. I was proud to work with Mayor (Kevin) Hartke to bring home federal funding to extend and expand the successful Chandler Flex program,” Rep. Greg Stanton said in the release.

Launched in 2022, Chandler Flex is a transportation service where riders can book a shared ride on a minivan through via an app. The service goes through the areas near Chandler Boulevard, Price Road, Chandler Heights Road and McQueen Road.

“The city of Chandler is proving itself to be a leader in providing reliable, convenient and safe transit options,” Mayor Hartke said in the release. “We are excited to continue to offer Chandler Flex ride share, providing transportation options for Chandler residents, students, workers and visitors.”

How much does a ride through Chandler Flex cost?

A single ride costs $2 with extra passengers costing an additional $1. Middle and high school students can ride for free with a valid student ID to and from school. Seniors over 65 years old and wheelchair-accessible riders can book a ride for $1.
