The grants from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will benefit Flagstaff, Page, and Tempe.
US Sens. Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego and US Rep. Greg Stanton of Arizona announced on Wednesday that over $44 million of federal money is going to infrastructure projects in three Arizona cities.
The grants were made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which President Joe Biden signed in 2021, and will benefit Flagstaff, Page, and Tempe.
“Our bipartisan infrastructure law continues to deliver real results in every corner of Arizona,” Kelly said in a press release. “These long-overdue improvements will create jobs, help keep our roadways safe for everyone, and support our growing communities.”
Tempe will receive $25 million to build a bicycle and pedestrian bridge across the Salt River. A quarter-mile shared-use path will be built connecting the bridge to the Indian Bend Wash Path and McClintock Drive.
The project also includes rehabilitation of the Indian Bend Wash Path, lighting, landscaping, pedestrian amenities, and improvements that increase access for people with disabilities.
Flagstaff will receive $19 million to improve safety along Butler Avenue and Fourth Street, including bike lanes, increased access for people with disabilities, wider roads, and drainage structures.
Page will receive $450,000 to build a roundabout at Coppermine Road and Haul Road. The city will also invest in traffic-calming measures, wider sidewalks, lighting, and a stormwater drainage system.
“These projects will make it easier and safer for Arizonans to get where they need to go,” Gallego said in a press release. “I’m proud to have helped pass the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law that made this funding possible, and I will continue fighting to strengthen our state’s infrastructure and create good-paying jobs.”
