As the U.S. House prepares to consider the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act, current and former residents of Mohave County, Arizona are asking Congress to adopt a measure that would bring justice to victims of radiation exposure. Earlier this week, Reps. Greg Stanton and Paul Gosar introduced a bipartisan amendment to the NDAA to support Downwinders in Mohave County and Clark County, Nevada-a continuation of their work together on the issue.

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham praised former Vice President Joe Biden's plan to invest in infrastructure and clean energy during a virtual roundtable discussion Friday.

Biden, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, introduced a $2 trillion climate proposal this week that would eliminate carbon emissions from U.S. power plants by 2035. He did not appear with Lujan Grisham and U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton, D-Ariz., on the video chat.

When Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego appeared on the nationally broadcasted Sunday morning news program "Face the Nation," Maricopa County Supervisor Steve Chucri watched with interest.

Gallego was talking about the impact COVID-19 was having on Phoenix. When asked by the host Margaret Brennan what more she would like to see done, Gallego said among other things, "We would like to see additional protections including moving restaurants to completely take out."

Today, the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure unanimously advanced the Water Resources Development Act of 2020, which included several measures to benefit Arizona. The bipartisan package authorizes water resources projects through the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and it now heads to the House floor.

Rep. Greg Stanton's Southwest Tourism Expansion Act moved a significant step closer to becoming law today as it advanced as part of the House's Fiscal Year 2021 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations bill. Stanton's bill would create a pilot program to allow certain visitors from Mexico who already have permission to enter the United States to travel throughout the state of Arizona.

Reps. Greg Stanton and Paul Gosar introduced a bipartisan amendment to the 2021 National Defense Authorization Act to include justice for victims of radiation exposure in Mohave County, Arizona and Clark County, Nevada-a continuation of their work together on the issue.

The area included in the amendment is home to many "Downwinders," individuals who lived downwind of nuclear test sites or reactors and were exposed to the fallout of U.S. government nuclear tests from 1945 to 1962. COVID-19 has made the need to bring justice to Downwinders more urgent.

PHOENIX - U.S. Rep. and former Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton is pushing for the nationwide usage of body-worn cameras for law enforcement.

Stanton recently introduced a bill to require the use of body-worn cameras for law enforcement officers as a condition of eligibility for federal funding.

The COPS Accountability Act of 2020 would require state, local and tribal government agencies applying for COPS grants to show they have plans in place to put a body camera on every officer who conducts searches and makes arrests.

In an ideal scenario, contact tracing would mean widely testing a community, quickly identifying cases, and getting contagious individuals to isolate. Then, health officials would contact family members, coworkers and others who might have been exposed, to test and quarantine them before the virus spreads further.
