Arizona's transit industry will get more than $107 million in emergency funds provided by the most recent COVID-19 relief package-a priority for Rep. Greg Stanton who serves on the House Transportation Committee. The Phoenix-Mesa Urbanized Area-which Stanton represents-will receive $85,260,499 in funds for local transit systems, and an additional $756,544 to organizations that help meet the transportation needs of seniors and individuals with disabilities.

"President Trump incited an insurrection and violent attack on Congress and the temple to our nation's democracy in an attempt to hold on to power despite losing a free and fair election. His actions are a shocking betrayal of his oath to preserve, protect, and defend our Constitution-unlike anything we've seen in our nation's history.

Following Wednesday's violent attack by domestic terrorists on the U.S. Capitol and the death of a Capitol Police officer and four others, Rep. Greg Stanton is pushing legislation to require all uniformed, on-duty Capitol Police officers to utilize body-worn cameras. He will introduce a bill proposing the requirement this week.

At a public viewing in Phoenix, the city Calvin Goode served a record 22 years and loved for a lifetime, the late councilman was commemorated Saturday.

In front of the building that bears his name near 3rd Avenue and Washington Street, Goode laid in a powder blue casket lined in bouquets of navy and white roses. Those who came to honor Goode called him legendary, unrelenting, all-consuming, inspiring and "the best kind of person God has to offer."

On Wednesday, during a joint session of Congress, a pro-President Donald Trump mob invaded the Capitol.

The riot spilled into the Capitol as the debate over Arizona's votes began. Republican Rep. Paul Gosar was on the microphone when debate was halted.

As events developed, national political reporters Yvonne Wingett Sanchez and Ronald J. Hansen reached out to members of Arizona's congressional delegation. They wanted to know where our elected officials were when the insurrection began, what they remember and how they felt.

Last night, Rep. Greg Stanton delivered a defense of Arizona's election results from the House Floor during a Joint Session of Congress to certify the Electoral College vote. Stanton's remarks came after a day of violent attacks on the U.S. Capitol.

PHOENIX – U.S. Rep. Greg Stanton of Arizona expressed disgust with the actions that unfolded at the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday and urged his colleagues in the House of Representatives to uphold their duty in correctly certifying the results of the presidential election.

"It is stunning, Madam Speaker, that there are some in this House who voiced support for what happened," Stanton said.

"It was not a protest, it was treason. It was sedition and it should be prosecuted as such."

Today, hundreds of thousands of Arizonans are out of a job or working fewer hours because of the COVID-19 pandemic, leaving many under immense financial strain. In the face of so much uncertainty, no one should have to worry about losing their home or not being able to feed their family.

The swim team at Chandler High School, in Chandler, Ariz., has suffered deep losses from COVID-19. In July, its beloved head coach, Kerry Croswhite, who also taught history at the school, died of the virus. Then one of the team's captains, Brisa Vasquez, 17, lost both her parents to the virus within 24 hours, on Dec. 2 and 3. On Dec. 5, Chandler High held a ceremony to rename the pool for Croswhite. His widow, Laurie, carries on as an assistant coach and 1st grade teacher in the Chandler Unified school district.
