Today, the Department of Commerce announced it has finalized a $7.865 billion award to Intel Corporation through the CHIPS and Science Act, advancing Intel's expansion of leading-edge microchip manufacturing facilities in Chandler, Arizona, which will create nearly 3,000 high-paying manufacturing jobs and 6,000 construction jobs. This award follows the preliminary agreement announced in March and will directly support Intel's projected U.S. investment of nearly $90 billion by the end of the decade, part of the company's broader $100+ billion expansion plan.

Today the U.S. Department of Commerce announced it would award $100 million in CHIPS and Science Act funds to SHIELD USA, the Substrate-based Heterogeneous Integration Enabling Leadership Demonstration for the USA initiative led by Arizona State University. SHIELD USA will drive innovation in the domestic microchip packaging ecosystem, expand capacity for domestic advanced packaging and help regain U.S. leadership in microelectronics while strengthening national security.

Today, the Department of Commerce announced it has finalized a $6.6 billion award to Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) from the CHIPS and Science Act to support the expansion of TSMC's microchip manufacturing facilities in Phoenix, Arizona. This award follows the previously announced preliminary agreement made in April and will also come with approximately $5 billion in loans to support the construction of TSMC's three manufacturing facilities in Phoenix, further cementing Arizona's role as a global hub for microchip development, testing, manufacturing, and packaging.

Greg Stanton today applauded the U.S. Department of Transportation for issuing a landmark $50 million penalty against American Airlines for repeatedly failing to provide safe, dignified, and prompt wheelchair assistance and mishandling passengers' wheelchairs. He also welcomed the news that DOT is actively investigating similar incidents at other U.S. airlines.

Greg Stanton toured Phoenix's Cave Creek Water Reclamation Facility on Monday, as the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation considers the city's application for nearly $300 million in funding under the Inflation Reduction Act to advance its North Phoenix Water Resiliency Strategy. The facility is currently undergoing renovations to allow it to utilize Advanced Water Purification technology-transforming treated wastewater into safe, purified drinking water.

Greg Stanton is pressing the Federal Aviation Administration for answers after a leaked internal U.S. Customs and Border Protection memo said nearly one third of its Remote Video Surveillance Systems are inoperable. The memo, NBC News reports, says the FAA has had internal problems meeting the needs of the Border Patrol, without elaborating on what those problems are.
