WASHINGTON, D.C.—Rep. Greg Stanton will introduce a House Resolution next Monday to oppose President Trump’s plan to impose a tariff starting at 5 percent on all goods from Mexico.

According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, a 5 percent tariff on Mexico’s goods could create a tax increase of $17 billion for American consumers.

“It’s easy to understand why there is so much bipartisan opposition to the President’s plan,” said Stanton.  “This tariff amounts to a massive tax increase that only hurts Arizona businesses, workers and consumers.”

Stanton’s resolution outlines the benefits of the U.S-Mexico trade relationship to the national economy, highlighting that Mexico recently surpassed China as the country’s top trade partner.
