Emergency service dispatchers in Phoenix are gearing up for a meeting with city officials in an attempt to shore up emergency funding for staff, new systems and therapy resources as nationally, dispatchers are awaiting a decision in Washington D.C. that could impact how they are classified.

Currently, 911 dispatchers in Arizona and across the nation are not considered first responders. Instead, they are generally considered clerical or administrative staff.

YUMA, Ariz. - United States Representative Greg Stanton and State House Minority Leader Charlene Fernandez will be visiting the San Luis Port of Entry commercial facility on Thursday.
During their visit, both political figures will be meeting with U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials to take a tour of the newly opened holding facility to discuss immigration, cross-border commerce, and infrastructure.

Immigrants and community members were invited by National Asian Pacific American Women's Forum to share their stories about the health care system on Saturday in front of Arizona and national leaders.

Congressman Greg Stanton, representing Arizona's 9th Congressional District, and state representative from District 30 Raquel Teran, as well as local leaders and advocates, listened to people discuss their medical care experiences in the U.S. at the Japanese American Citizens League Hall in Glendale.

More than 30 members of Congress on Thursday sent a letter to Acting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Matthew Albence about the treatment of transgender detainees in their custody.

"We are gravely concerned regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) policies for individuals seeking asylum in the United States," wrote the lawmakers. "Today, we write to express our strong concerns with ICE's treatment of transgender migrants seeking asylum in the United States, especially those coming to the U.S. from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala."

The Gila River Indian Community together with the U.S. Department of the Interior (DOI) and a host of elected officials this morning celebrated the opening of the Gila Crossing Community School, the Community's Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) K-8 school located in District 6 of the reservation along West Pecos Road near Laveen.

More than 700 Community members and guests filled the new gymnasium of the Gila Crossing Community School (GCCS) for its ribbon cutting ceremony Saturday, July 27 in District 6. Many Gila River Indian Community, state, and national leaders attended to celebrate the historic occasion. The state-of-the-art school was open for the day to all for tours of the school before officially opening Aug. 1.

WASHINGTON – A House panel grilled administration officials Thursday over migrant family separations and conditions at border detention facilities, but the hearing produced more partisan sparks than answers.

Both sides at the House Judiciary Committee hearing said the situation at the border has reached crisis levels – but they agreed on little else.

Republicans accused Democrats of holding just another in a series of hearings aimed at political gain and not at finding solutions.
