U.S. Reps. Greg Stanton (D-Ariz.), Rodney Davis (R-Ill.), Steven Palazzo (R-Miss.), and Jimmy Panetta (D-Calif.) today announced the introduction of the Small Community Transit Improvement Act of 2021 to increase the amount of funding provided to transit systems in small communities. H.R. 2306 would increase the apportionment for the Small Transit Intensive Cities Program (STIC) from 2% to 3% to urban areas with populations of less than 200,000 to keep up with the growth and success of the program.

$81 Million Secured for South Central Light Rail Extension

Rep. Greg Stanton announced today that transit agencies in the Phoenix-Mesa Urbanized Area will receive $208 million from the American Rescue Plan, a priority for Stanton who serves on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. These funds will be used for operating expenses, including payroll and personal protective equipment costs for transit workers.

Rep. Greg Stanton announced that community health centers in Arizona’s Ninth District will receive more than $32.2 million from the American Rescue Plan to accelerate vaccine distribution for low income and minority populations. The Department of Health and Human Services named Native Health, Mountain Park Health Center, Valle del Sol, Adelante Healthcare and Terros Inc. to receive funding.

Hearing Will Mark First in House for Downwinders in Two Decades
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler today confirmed that the committee will soon hold a hearing on the impacts of radiation exposure for Downwinders, an issue championed by Rep. Greg Stanton. Stanton, the sponsor of H.R. 612, the Downwinders Parity Act of 2021, has been working to deliver justice for Downwinders in Mohave County, Arizona and Clark County, Nevada.

Rep. Greg Stanton today introduced legislation to help protect renters facing eviction due to COVID-19 from long-term financial consequences. Stanton says the measure is a first step to address the nation’s growing eviction crisis. H.R. 1594, the COVID-19 Eviction Consumer Report Fairness Act, would require all Credit Reporting Agencies to exclude evictions, any information related to evictions, or any proceedings seeking evictions, from consumer reports between March 13, 2020 through 120 days after the date the President terminates the national emergency.
